4-day work week: Can it be done?

Ever wondered what it would be like to work a 4-day working week?

Well, here at Wolfcub, we have taken the bull by the horns and decided to give it a go.

We certainly like to think of ourselves as a progressive company and aren’t the only ones choosing to adopt this way of working either as many other like-minded agencies up and down the country do the same.

From our perspective outside of the health benefits associated with working less, helping to reduce our carbon footprint is also another big draw.

Initially, we are planning to try it out for 3 months with the hope that all being well, we shall continue afterwards.

Can working less deliver higher productivity and a better balance between life and work?

Well, 63% of Britons seem to think so, according to a recent survey by YouGov.

At this stage for us, it’s perhaps too early to say but one thing I know for sure is that changing our mindset to being more productive on the four days we are in the office has definitely helped already and we are finally able to pursue personal projects and family commitments outside of the office.

From experience, being overworked can often result in stress or depression and long working hours make parenting and family care ever trickier to juggle so it’s great to be able to help drive this new way of working forward.

What made us decide to go for it?

We were seeing a lot of our friends who run their agencies, like ourselves bite the bullet and give it a go and hearing the warm and positive response that came back from them was reassuring and helped the decision to go ahead much easier.

They also reported an increased level of productivity and their staff were all enjoying being in the office on the days that they were in as opposed to clock watching and spending time procrastinating.

Aside from small businesses though, it’s also great to see larger organisations like Microsoft testing out the 4-day work week in Japan which boosted their productivity by a whopping 40%!

In Closing

With all of this positive reinforcement, it’s easy to see why so many have pushed to have it become part of their working environment.

We completely appreciate it’s not so straight forward for all companies to adopt but for us, it’s something we believe strongly in and look forward to seeing where it takes us.

We will endeavour to keep you up-to-date with how it goes and hopefully return with positive feedback. Wish us luck!
